SymbalooEDU

My first attempt at creating a Symbaloo web mix. I absolutely love this tool and have already started creating a new web mix for reading sites, math sites, class warm ups and today it was suggested to create a web mix of sites for parents to access information. Thanks for all the suggestions at today’s tech brekkie. Below is the web mix I created for my Prep class based on our most used websites in learning time. Hope you like.

Be sure to check out the other great web mixes created and shared on Symbaloo via the Gallery such as

Things to Think About

Things to think about” – free app ( available on iOS application store)

I am constantly trying to vary the ways to enhance my students daily writing and have located this app that is twofold in nature and that has the potential to be used across a range of year levels.

To sum up the intent of this app, I would say that it is to provide a stimulus that applies to different real life contexts.  Responses can then be transferred into a meaningful guided discussion. It is easily navigated and poses questions about life, that the students answer.  These responses can form the basis for guided discussion in the classroom. It is written by children for children – which can engage even the most reluctant of writers.  All of the graphics and spoken prompts are by children and there is additional information about the designers – if you wanted to view it.

“Things to think about”  – adds a new dimension to writing as it often questions moral values, which can be an effective way to teach students about socially acceptable behaviours and address any behavioural issues in class. It asks students for their opinion, which develops ownership over their writing and can motivate students. The only critism I have ( and it is strictly personal) is that there is American spelling in the app. I recommended that you view this app to see how it can provide a different type of  writing stimulus in your classroom.
